Furniture Now!, the re-use, recycling and training charity has appointed a new chief executive officer.
The charity has a branch in Courtlands Road, near ESK. It sells secondhand furniture which has often been refurbished under the charity’s training scheme.
Petrina Mayson comes to Furniture Now! from Age UK East Sussex where she has been performing the role of operations director. She will be starting on February 18 and brings considerable experience in staff, volunteer and budget management.
Ms Mayson has run her own successful fundraising business for the last five years. She has raised more than £20 million for local charities and educational organisations and has also worked at director level in further education locally and is the treasurer for East Sussex Council of voluntary youth services.
Phil Ashford, chair of trustees at Furniture Now!, said, “We are delighted to be welcoming Petrina to Furniture Now!
“The trustees are looking forward to working closely with her to develop the services we offer, especially meeting the new need that will arise from April when there are cuts to both the social fund and to state benefits for those who are not in work. We expect to see a lot more hardship.
“Petrina will be working with staff and trustees to expand our product range to include more IT and white goods and review, and hopefully expand, the training we are able to offer our volunteers and external trainees.”
Ms <Mayson said she was thrilled and added, “I have watched the steady expansion of the charity over recent years and been very aware of both its impact on the local community and its enviable reputation. I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to help guide the future direction of the charity and develop its ambitious expansion plans at a time when our services are facing unprecedented levels of need.”
