Never mind Fifty Shades of Grey, Eastbourne mum Emmy Yoshida is serving up her own brand of erotic and sassy literature with a debut novel which is sure to raise a few eyebrows.

The former lap dancer, who once earned up to £5,000 a night working at gentlemen’s clubs in this country and Australia, is drawing on some of her experiences as the basis for the book titled Corrupted.

“I’ve already had a lot of positive comments about the book,” said Emmy. “It’s got a good plot, a gutsy story, but it is definitely a chick book.”

Tomorrow (Saturday), Emmy will be staging a belated Valentine’s Day book reading and signing event at the WH Smith store in Terminus Road, Eastbourne, from 11am to 4pm.

Emmy admitted that many of the scenes in the book are based on her own experiences of working as an exotic dancer in clubs such as Stringfellows and Spearmint Rhino.

She describes her first published work as, “A world of red velvet, poles and mirrors. A place where morals have been tainted and looks are deceiving; where the pursuit of pleasure leads to pain and nail-biting terror; and naivety is the most dangerous attribute of them all.”

The novel is a unique insight into the exciting but dangerous lives led by high-class strippers, in which young girls are tempted into the hedonistic lifestyle of exotic dancing to fund their studies.

Emmy began her career while studying at the London College of Fashion. After spending four years working the clubs, she moved to East Sussex three years ago to be close to her mother, who runs Foyles pie and mash in Hastings.

The 27-year-old has now settled in Sovereign Harbour with her two-year-old son, Enzo.

“I have always enjoyed writing since I was a child, and when I started writing this novel it soon became an obsession,” added Emmy. “Sometimes I would write until two or three in the morning, five nights a week.”

The book has been published by Eastbourne-based Gibson publishing, and is now available from Amazon, WH Smith and Waterstones. Today (Friday) and tomorrow Corrupted is free to download on Kindle.

Already Emmy, who is a member of the Anderida Writers’ Group in Eastbourne, is working on a second novel, with a follow-up to Corrupted already in the pipeline.

“Yes, there are some sex scenes in the novel, but this is much better than Fifty Shades of Grey,” added Emmy. “The characters are far more dynamic and I think the plot is far better.”
