More locals arrested in police drink drive campaign

Nine more drivers have been charged with drink driving after being arrested over the New Year period.

The drivers include Joseph Brazil, 19, unemployed, who was charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath after police found a vehicle abandoned on the A22 near Hailsham at 2am on Tuesday (December 31).

Officers searched the area and found Brazil, of Sussex Road, Knaphill, Woking, wandering in the carriageway. He will appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on February 12.

Brian Bailey, 44, a builder, of Cambridge Road, Eastbourne, was stopped after being seen to drive a pick-up truck erratically in Rylestone Road, Eastbourne, at 11.30pm on Tuesday (December 31). He has been charged with drink driving and will appear at Hastings Magistrates on February 12.

Chris Bourne, 27, an occupational therapist, of Coxwell Close, Seaford, has been charged with drink driving following a road traffic collision in Rookery Way, Bishopstone, at 12.28am on Wednesday (January 1).

He will appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on February 13.

A total of 15 people were arrested on Tuesday (December 31) and Wednesday (January 1). Nine were charged, three were bailed to return at a later date and three were released with no further action.
