A meeting is being held later this month between Transport Minister Patrick McLoughlin and Tory MP hopeful Caroline Ansell to talk about improvements to the A27.
The meeting is in the critical time period when the DfT and Highways Agency are gathering evidence and deciding on priority roads to benefit from investment. The A27 corridor is one of six studies across the country in the running for this investment round and the Polegate to Beddingham stretch is under consideration.
“I am very glad of the opportunity to speak with the Secretary of State, taking our case for investment to the highest level,” said Caroline, the Conservative candidate for Eastbourne in next year’s General Election.
“I am preparing now, working with Westminster colleagues, business and the community to build the case. The Highways Agency will revisit past proposals to duel the road or to build bypasses at Wilmington and Selmeston and, at my last meeting with the DfT, I was able to secure the opportunity to put forward a new proposal for consideration. We’re working intensively on it now and I will be presenting it, at my meeting, to the Secretary of State.”
