Five Eastbourne ladies raised more than £2,000 for charity by taking on the Women v Cancer Ride the Night challenge.

Kirsty Vine, Pip Reed, Tracey Buchan, Emma Blackwell and Claire Burgum rallied together to complete the 100k cycle in five-and-a-half hours.

The group set off from Windsor Racecourse at 9pm before heading into London and returning to Windsor Racecourse to finish the race at 5.30am.

Between the five of them, the ladies raised £2,265, which will now be donated to research for breast, ovarian and cervical cancer.

The team would like to thank Guy Soper at Eastbourne Cycle Tech, which is based in Westham, for servicing all their bikes before the challenge.

Women v Cancer Ride the Night will be taking place again this year and is inviting women to sign up. The event has already raised more than £950,00 for three charities - Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

The 100km route is not only for a good cause but takes participants on a night-time tour of London, passing landmarks such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. For more information, visit www.actionforcharity.co.uk.
