Councillor Jo Bentley has been re-elected Town Mayor and Chairman for another year at the annual general meeting of Hailsham Town Council held on Wednesday [May 28].
The Annual General Meeting also elected Councillor Amanda O’Rawe as Deputy Town Mayor and Vice-Chairman, various representatives for local community organisations and chairs of the Town Council’s Committees (see box to the right).
Prior to being re-elected as Town Mayor and signing the Declaration of Acceptance of Office, Councillor Bentley asked members and staff to observe a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Councillor Bryan Burchmore, who passed away recently.
During her address, the Mayor stated that it had been a busy but productive year for the Town Council and thanked all those who had contributed to its many achievements, for helping to provide better facilities for Hailsham and revitalising the town in the process.
The Mayor also thanked the Youth Mayor, Musta Rahman, for all his hard work during the past year and presented him with a gift on behalf of the Town Council.
Speaking after the meeting, Councillor Bentley said, “Thank you for having faith in me. It is a privilege to continue in my role as Town Mayor for another term. I’d like to thank my fellow councillors for working with me to achieve a lot during the past year. However, there is still a lot more work to be done and many more good things to be achieved by the Town Council. I’d also like to extend my thanks to Councillor Michael Ryan for his support as Deputy Mayor and Vice-Chairman during the past year, and congratulate Councillor Councillor Amanda O’Rawe for being elected Deputy Mayor for 2014/2015.”
