“We wanted to show how, if they got their working practices right, acknowledged and dealt with unconscious barriers, employers could tap into a hidden workforce: women. There’s 2.4million women out there who want to work but are unable to because of hidden barriers. First we had to inspire and then motivate people to think differently.”

More than 100 leaders from across Sussex heard from the speakers about how they succeeded, the issues they’d overcome and the opportunities available out there if people followed their passion.

The speakers included Anji Hunter, special adviser for Edelman, the largest PR company in the world and former ‘gatekeeper’ for Tony Blair’s government, Julia Barfield,MBE, entrepreneur responsible for the London Eye, Penny Mallory, television presenter and former world rally driver champion, Nus Ghani MP, Katy Bourne Sussex PCC, successful businesswoman Penina Shepherd, founder of multi-award winning Acumen Business Law and Daryl Gayler, regional director for RBS.

Laura added, “Social media was humming as people wanted to share their enthusiasm about what they were hearing, saying those who weren’t there had missed something special. We’ve had tremendous feedback about the day and businesses are looking forward to us hosting something similar next year. We’re run by volunteers and none of this could have happened without the support given to us by our sponsors.”
