Mr Chris Gebbie OBE, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, along with his wife Vanessa, visited Eastbourne lifeboat station this weekend.

The couple were introduced to some of the all-weather lifeboat volunteer crew before being given a conducted tour of the lifeboat by Coxswain Mark Sawyer.

They later joined the crew on a training exercise off Beachy Head and a short demonstration off the Western Lawns for the benefit of people attending the Lammas Festival.

The Lammas Festival took place along the seafront and at the Western Lawns on Saturday and Sunday (July 26 and 27). For pictures, see page 39.

Chris Gebbie was chosen to take office in a traditional nomination ceremony at London’s High Court back in November 2013.
