Handbag stolen after woman assaulted in St Leonards

A woman was assaulted and had her handbag stolen in St Leonards on Wednesday (February 3).

The woman, in her fifties, was pushed to the ground from behind in Coventry Road at about 8pm having walked down the steps and alleyway from Battle Road.

Her bag containing money, keys and her mobile phone was stolen.

She suffered some minor injuries but was badly shaken.

Police are looking for two white men in their late teens to early twenties who the victim had just passed in the alleyway and who were loitering as she made her way through.

Detective Constable Chris Milner said: “We are looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who saw the two men in the alleyway.

“Anyone who lives nearby is also asked to check their gardens and outside areas for any discarded property.

“If you can help please contact us via or call 101, quoting serial 1272 of 03/02.”
