EMERGENCY services launched a full scale rescue early yesterday morning after reports of man being seen waist deep in water and in a distressed state near Eastbourne pier.
Lifeboat crews, police, ambulance and mobile coastguard staff were called into action just before 4am on Sunday morning.
According to the RNLI, emergency services were in telephone contact with the man. Finally, after firing off white flares and using powerful lifeboat searchlights, he was located on the beach at Splash Point, to the east of the pier.
The lifeboat doctor assessed the casualty’s condition, who was then passed into the care of the waiting ambulance crew and police officers.
