An Eastbourne sailor has just graduated as a warfare specialist from HMS Collingwood, Fareham.

Able Seaman Edward Owen, 20, completed his Phase 2 training with Victory Squadron.

Joining the Royal Navy in December last year to see the world whilst undertaking an exciting career, Edward is looking forward to joining his first ship.

The former Sussex Downs College student said, “I’m delighted to be passing out from my course after a difficult but fun time on course at Collingwood.

“I’m excited to be completing my military training and to finally get on board my first ship.”

The keen fitness fan’s service career choice sees him following in the footsteps of his granddad who served as a radar operator in the Navy.

Edward joined the Maritime Warfare School at HMS Collingwood after completing his basic training at HMS Raleigh. At HMS Collingwood he undertook the Warfare Specialist Training Course to learn how to set up and operate the Royal Navy’s systems that provide information to ships on air and surface activities. After successfully completing the course, Edward will now join HMS Excellent to undertake the next part of his training before joining his first ship.

HMS Collingwood is the home of the Maritime Warfare School which contributes to the operational capability of the Fleet by providing first class training to all officers and ratings of the Royal Navy in their professional specialisations which include, Weapon Engineering, Communications, and Warfare. The training they receive is relevant, agile and flexible in order to keep pace with the challenging operational needs.
