EASTBOURNE scouts recently celebrated their centenary year with a massive camp at Bushy Wood.
Attended by nearly 800 members, the Time Warp in Tents camp event was the largest held in the district for many years.
The theme of the camp was scouting through the last 100 years and beyond and this gave rise to the camp's title, TWiTs.
During an action packed weekend young people enjoyed a host of activities from laserquest through to wall climbing, from archery to sumo wrestling. One of the highlights of the camp was the district's very own Scouting's Got Talent show which was won by Finlay, a cub scout from the 2nd Willingdon Scout group who wowed the audience with his Michael Jackson dancing skills.
The camp was two years in the planning with a team of adults and young people involved in developing the action packed programme.
Ian Watling, camp chief, said it was one of the most amazing camps he had attended. Eastbourne District Scout Council was officially warranted at Scout Headquarters in June 1910 and the past year has once again seen Eastbourne Scouts' membership figures rise dramatically – this time by 112 per cent to become the largest district in the county with membership now heading towards the 1,000 mark.
