Stephen Lloyd MP has been appointed as the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Rt Hon Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), in a recent government reshuffle.
Mr Lloyd said, “The issue of our energy use and climate change are amongst the most pressing challenges facing us in the 21st century.
“Getting it right now will have an impact on the legacy we leave for future generations. I am pleased to be given a role in such an important area and look forward to the job tremendously.
“ I will be focussing on the cost of energy for local residents, ensure businesses in UK plc have an opportunity to play a leading role in the green economy and, importantly, take the necessary steps to tackle the real challenges of climate change.
“For over 30 years, I have been an advocate of our country playing a key part in tackling climate change by sensibly increasing the use of renewables, whilst at the same time ensuring the energy companies and governments do all they can to bring public support with them.
“Unrealistic increases in bills are neither helpful nor necessary so long as we get the energy mix right. I intend to push these priorities forcefully in my new role.”
Leader of the Council David Tutt added, “I congratulate Stephen on becoming PPS to the DECC Secretary of State, Ed Davey.”
