The town’s inshore lifeboat was launched today (Monday March 24) when a member of the public called 999 after mistaking a someone on a paddle board for a person ‘padding a log’.
An RNLI spokesperson said, “When on scene the volunteer crew found the well equipped individual happily paddling his paddle-board enjoying the calm sea and pleasant sunshine.
“Whilst on this occasion the incident may be considered a waste of resources, it is reassuring that people are vigilant and aware of the potential dangers of the sea.
“Having fitted a replacement engine to the ILB yesterday it was a good opportunity to test the unit’s performance and we are pleased to report that it performed perfectly. “
