The sunniest place in Britain has another accolade to its name as Eastbourne has nabbed the top spot in Shearings’ ‘top ten places to visit in England’ list.

The list features on the Shearings Holidays website and notes the town’s elegance and popularity.

The website states, “This traditional Victorian seaside resort is popular all year round.

“Its elegant pier, award-winning beaches and floral public gardens are great places to enjoy a stroll whilst breathing in the fresh sea air and basking in the charm of this pretty coastal town.

“With several castles, museums and galleries to explore, visitors to Eastbourne will never be short of something to do.”

The other nine resorts, in order, are: Torquay, Bournemouth, Isle of Wight, Newquay, Whitby, Exmouth, Scarborough, St Ives and Great Yarmouth.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism & Leisure Councillor Carolyn Heaps said, “We are delighted to be placed in the top ten places to visit in England.

“We have another exciting year ahead planned for Eastbourne, from the UK’s best free airshow to our weekly street markets, and we look forward to holiday makers enjoying our award winning seaside town.”

A council spokesperson added, “Eastbourne is a very popular holiday resort due to the stunning scenery and tranquillity of the South Downs which feature on its doorstep, along with the serene seafront, a wide range of excellent accommodation and an endless list of attractions and things to do.

“In addition, the town’s sunshine record and unique micro-climate make Eastbourne the perfect choice for a sunny seaside break.

“Eastbourne has many of the main ingredients to support a fun filled coach holiday, starting with its enviable position as a natural gateway to the South Downs National Park.”
