Eastbourne hiker hopes to hit £1k for kids’ charity

Oliver Prentice

Oliver Prentice

EASTBOURNE man Oliver Prentice will be putting his best foot forward for a charity walk in May.

Oliver, who lives in Astaire Avenue, is taking part in the London2Brighton Challenge, trekking 100km from Richmond Park to Brighton Race Course in aid of Hope for Children.

Oliver hopes to raise £800 but would love to hit £1,000 and says he is raising money for the charity because of the work it does with concerned local individuals and groups around the world.

Oliver has spent time travelling and said he witnessed street children in Romania and the very young age and late time they were out begging reaffirmed that this was the right charity for him to choose.

Oliver said, “Just £10 would provide a medical kit for a child in Ghana, £50 would provide food for a family for a week in Ghana or fund the basic medical costs for nine children for one whole year in Sri Lanka or £1,000 will buy shoes for 120 children from a slum on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda.

“This is a big challenge and to complete it will require many weeks of training. I have set up a blog so that my weekly training and photos of my walks can be viewed.”

The blog can be seen at www.hard-walk.tumblr.com and anyone who would like to sponsor Oliver can sponsor him online at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/OliverPrentice

Oliver said, “I would like to thank all those that have already sponsored me and I’m hoping the residents of Eastbourne will rally to support my trek on the London2Brighton 100km challenge for this worthy cause.”
