Eastbourne commemorates 100 years since outbreak of World War I

The town marked 100 years since the outbreak of World War I yesterday (Monday, August 4) at a Civic Service of Remembrance.

Town dignitaries gathered at St Mary’s Church, Old Town, in the morning for a special service to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the hundreds of residents who gave their lives in the 1914-1918 war.

On Monday evening, the Redoubt hosted an evening of quiet reflection with readings and a performance by actor Simon Waterfield.

A service was also held on Monday at St John’s Church in Polegate, while communities in Hailsham and Seaford held their services on Sunday, August 3.
