ROADWORKS will cause some inconvenience but are essential, says Willingdon councillor.
A section of the main A2270 Eastbourne Road between Eastbourne and Polegate will be closed to southbound traffic for about four days for resurfacing works scheduled to start today (Wednesday). The works will be taking place between 9.30am and 4pm.
County councillor Stephen Shing said, “The works will take place on Eastbourne Road between Coopers Hill and Church Street.
“This is part of a major route between Eastbourne and Polegate and will cause some inconvenience to many of our residents, however the works are essential. This is the second phase of resurfacing work which took place last year. Please note that these works may be delayed in periods of wet weather and look out for the advance warning signs on site for any changes.”
District Councillor Raymond Shing added, “Northbound traffic will be unaffected; however the works section of Eastbourne Road will be closed to southbound traffic (towards Eastbourne). Diversions will commence from its junction with the A27 with diversion signs guiding traffic to rejoin at Cross Levels Way roundabout.”
The councillors say southbound bus journeys on services one, 51, 54 and 98 will be affected between 9am and 5pm.
Those bus journeys will be diverted from Willingdon Triangle via Huggetts Lane, Hazelwood Avenue, Willingdon Park Drive and Decoy Drive resuming the normal route from Kings Drive. Service one towards Old Town will be diverted from Hazelwood Ave via Willingdon Park Drive and Kings Drive to resume normal route at Willingdon roundabout.
