A family from Hellingly are cycling from London to Barcelona to raise money for Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice.
Five members of the Chatfield family – Grant, Liz, James, Harry and Millie – will be joining a number of other keen cyclists for the 1,000 mile trek in the hope of raising £7,000 for the local charity.
David Wells, from Eastbourne, is also a member of Team LonBar, which is sponsored by TR Fastenings and will be supported by a group from Hailsham.
The team will set off from the foot of Big Ben on July 13 and aim to arrive in the Spanish city on July 22, averaging between 56 and 128 miles a day. Their route will take them first to Portsmouth, down through France, across the Pyrenees and along the east cost of Spain to Barcelona.
The group has set themselves a target of £7,000 as that will cover all the care costs for 24 hours, both in the hospice and at families’ own homes.
Sarah Arnold, corporate fundraising manager at Chestnut Tree House, said, “At Chestnut Tree House, every day is unique and every day something wonderful and special happens. The day Team LonBar choose to pay for with their kind donation could be the most precious day for a child and their family and we are very grateful to them all for undertaking this ride to support us.”
