Policing, although hard work, is often rewarding. With this in mind it’s extremely heartening that so many wish to undertake these roles voluntarily.

Special constables are an integral part of our teams working across many units in Sussex Police. Last year alone, Sussex Special Constables served for 82,000 hours. We currently have 375 serving Specials in Sussex. We are currently inviting expressions of interest for Special Constables. For more information regarding this please go to www.sussex.police.uk.

Community Speed Watch continues to be a great success in many areas across Wealden. The groups are extremely effective in providing awareness and support within your many of your neighbourhoods regarding the issues caused by those who speed. I would like to thank our volunteers for their continued commitment to changing driving habits within their village/parish. If you are interested in joining or setting up a speed watch group please contact your local officers.

Lots of visitors to beauty spots in the summer can attract criminals. We have seen a small number of breaks to vehicles with handbags and valuable electrical items targeted.

We have responded to the thefts by launching Operation Fleece. Wealden officers are regularly patrolling beauty spot car parks and talking to vehicle owners about securing property.

We are also placing out notice boards in higher risk areas warning people about the risks of leaving valuables unattended.

Alongside these preventative measures we are also pro-actively targeting the criminals with the use of bait vehicles and plain clothes patrols.

I would ask that you help us by removing all valuables from your cars when leaving it unattended, and call us immediately if you see anything suspicious.

Wealden continues to be a low crime area with significant reductions in crime over the last year. Your neighbourhood policing team work very hard in dealing with the issues that affect you and will continue to do this in the future. One of our main focuses continues to be breaks to sheds and outbuildings across the district.

We are constantly looking at new and innovative ways to helps protect residents property as well as catching those who choose to break the law. Please help us in this fight against crime by reporting anything suspicious to us on 101.
