Eastbourne Foodbank receives a donation of teddy bears from Benenden Hospital

Christmas came early at the Eastbourne Foodbank when the organisation was given a box of miniature teddy bears.

The bears were a gift from Benenden Hospital, in Cranbrook, Kent.

Staff had discovered the teddy bears when an old, redundant building was emptied, as the hospital began to prepare the site for a £40 million redevelopment, which is due to start next year.

The bears are old promotional stock.

Benenden Hospital was re-branded at the beginning of 2013 with new colours and a new logo.

After making the discovery the hospital asked staff and its Facebook followers to nominate good causes and organisations so that the bears could find new homes before Christmas. The hospital’s paediatrics department is also giving the bears to young patients.

The other organisations nominated, who will also be receiving deliveries, were Demelza House, the Young Lives Foundation in Maidstone, Rye Playgroup, Rolvenden Playgroup and Benenden Playgroup.

Benenden Hospital was founded in 1907 and is an independent trust hospital with charitable status.
