Callous culprits stole a charity collection box raising funds in aid of cancer and leukaemia sufferers in a burglary at the weekend.

Carters Fish & Chips in Winston Crescent was targeted between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Saturday (March 8) and as well as taking the collection belonging to the Tuesday O’Hara Fund, a rucksack containing a £150 cash float was also swiped.

Sue O’ Hara, who set up the charity in 2007 following the death of her daughter Tuesday, aired her disgust with those responsible online, saying, “To the vile person who broke into Carters Fish & Chip Shop by Tollgate School this afternoon and damaged the shop door and stole their float and our collection box I hope you get found out.

“The Carters have been raising money for the Tuesday charity for about three years now and are a family run chip shop doing a honest living so if any one knows or hears anything about this please inform the police.”

Others added their thoughts calling the culprits ‘selfish, sick people’ and called the burglary ‘terrible’.

The rucksack, which was taken from under the counter, is dark green with an orange front pocket.

Entry was gained to the premises when a small window at the back of the building was forced open.

If anyone has any information or saw any suspicious behaviour in the area between these times is asked to call police on 101 and quote serial 1023 of 08/03.

The Tuesday O’Hara Fund was founded after Tuesday lost her four year battle against leukaemia. Its aim is to raise funds to support cancer and leukaemia sufferers aged between 18-30 and their families.
