The Best in Show carnival trophy has been presented to Eastbourne and Wealden YWCA this week.
The trophy was officially handed over by pageant master David Cooper and Stephen Lloyd MP, patron of the carnival.
The judging panel at the time commented on the huge variety of colour, spectacular headdresses and the flavour of Rio that the team brought to the seafront.
Mr Cooper said, “It was great to see everyone again at the YMCA to present them with their winner’s trophy.
It was clear just how much effort the team had put in to bring Rio by the Sea to Eastbourne, and I know from the cheers, that they are going to be defending their trophy with just as much enthusiasm next year.”
Jacy Kilvert, manager of the Eastbourne and Wealden YMCA, added, “It was a true community effort. Everyone rolled their sleeves up to help out and support and we couldn’t have done it without their creative juices! I am particularly grateful to the Langney Area Panel who helped with the funding.”
Stephen Lloyd said, “Our Sunshine Carnival this year was a real success and I was blown away by the high level of entrants.
“It simply gets better and better. It was great speaking to the gang at Charlies on Seaside Road and listening to how much they enjoyed Carnival 2014.
“I know that they are already planning for next year Carnival, and who knows, maybe I can convince Dave to wear one of the great headdresses designed by the YMCA next year!”
