Eastbourne coastguards were called into action twice this morning (Thursday).
They were involved in helping get a man with suspected appendicitis off a ship off the coast of Eastbourne during the first call out.
The man in his 40s was winched off the vessel on to the coastguard helicopter and airlifted to Eastbourne District General Hospital. Coastguards were at the Kings Drive hospital when the helicopter landed.
At the same time coastguards were called to recover the body of a man from the foot of cliffs at Beachy Head.
The Sussex Police helicopter landed on the cliffs top to collected coastguards and drop them down to the isolated stretch of beach where’s the man’s body was.
His body was recovered and the coastguard helicopter then returned to winch the body and rescuers off the beach.
