Brownies from across Eastbourne joined together for the Division’s Big Brownie Birthday Party last month.
To honour the milestone, the party was in the theme of an old fashioned fete with a Maypole, Splat the Rat. Smash the Plate, Pin a Tail on the Donkey and a Treasure Hunt as well as other traditional games.
There was, of course, the must have more modern games like a bouncy obstacle course and a photo booth.
The girls also enjoyed decorating their own tee shirts and making friendship bracelets and badges. They iced their own cake which, when they were all put together, made the figure 100.
The highlight of the day was having their very own 100-year-old to help cut the cake, Irene Wicking, known as Wickie, joined Guides when she was 11 as there were no Brownies in the village where she lived. She has been in Guiding and Trefoil Guild ever since. Helping her cut the cake was Caitlin McCabe-Brown, a Brownie in the 2nd Unit and Sue Nash the Division President.
Several events both locally and nationally to mark the Brownie movement’s 100th birthday. For more information on Guiding in Eastbourne visit www.girlguiding.org.uk
