A fire at a seafront hotel saw traffic chaos in Eastbourne this evening (Thursday February 27).
Crews from Eastbourne, Hailsham and Pevensey were called to the Glastonbury Hotel after a blaze broke out on the third floor and in the roof. The blaze was reported shortly after 5.15pm and firefighters were still at the scene an hour later.
Crowds looked on as a firefighter surveyed the top of the building in an aerial platform ladder.
One man told the Herald he had called 999, adding, “I saw smoke coming from the building and the fire crews went inside to make sure no-one was in there.
“The hotel is shut at the moment anyway.”
Police were on the seafront to divert traffic.
