Beachy Head is the atmospheric setting for a moving service today (Monday May 5).

The Second Annual Bomber Command ‘Mission Accomplished’ memorial service will be held at 3pm on May 5 at Bomber Command, Beachy Head. Everyone is invited to attend and remember the brave young men who died in service of their country.

The service will begin with a welcome address by CEO Bomber Command Beachy Head, Joe Williams and Clinton Williams, followed by a service and the Last Post. This is an acknowledgement of the sacrifices made by the 55,573 men of Bomber Command and to commemorate the final mission on the April 26, 1945 to destroy Hitler’s Eagle Nest.

Wreaths will be laid and wooden crosses carried out by members of airmen’s families and members of the public which will commemorate the loss of 55,573 aircrew who flew with Bomber Command across the skies of occupied Europe.
