The author of a book on the history of Beachy Head Lighthouse is donating half the profits to the fundraising appeal to repaint it.
Rob Wassell penned The Story of the Beachy Head Lighthouse in April this year after previously writing a book on Belle Tout Lighthouse.
It covers the history of the Beachy Head Lighthouse from the original plans to construction, through the years to the modern day and includes information and rarely seen pictures showing the inside of the lighthouse and how the keepers lived day to day.
Rob said, “This book is a project of passion while enabling me to help make money for the Save the Stripes campaign.”
The book includes interviews with former lighthouse keeps who lived in the granite tower before it was finally automated in 1983.

Some 50 per cent of the proceeds from the book will go towards the campaign to repaint the iconic red and white stripes which was launched a year ago after Trinity House, which owns the lighthouse, said it could no longer justify the cost of repainting it and it would have to revert to its natural granite grey colour.
Since then campaigners from the Keep the Stripes Facebook group, the Eastbourne Herald and Eastbourne Rotary Am have worked tirelessly to raise the £26,000 needed for the tower to be painted.
The fundraising total now stands at £22,500 and campaigners say they are confident they will have reached their target in time for the lighthouse to be re-painted in the spring.
