An Eastbourne poet and a local publisher are celebrating after a book containing a collection of his work enjoyed rave reviews as it went on sale this month.
Laurie Wilkinson’s book of poems, entitled ‘Poetic Views of Life’, was published by local company My Voice and has so far received numerous five-star customer ratings on Amazon.
The compact book contains 35 poems in four different categories – romance, humour, reflection and tragedy – and draws on real-life experiences of author Laurie, who has a degree in forensic psychiatry.
Laurie said, “I’m a member of Anderida Writers in Eastbourne and I read a few of my poems out at meetings and received such positive feedback.
“This encouraged me to write more and after a while, I wanted to see them in print.
“While it does cover a variety of topics such as passing away and domestic abuse, I have been told some of the humour poems are very funny too.
“The response so far has been great and I’ve recently had a poem published in the Daily Mail too, which was nice.”
Laurie is hoping to hold a book signing in the Duke of Devonshire pub – the setting for two of his poems –in the near future, as well as the Greenhouse Bar, which is also supporting his work. A percentage of the proceeds from Poetic Views of Life is also going towards Help for Heroes charity, as will any donations made at the book signing.
Laurie’s book is available to buy on Amazon or directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
