All roads lead to Portsmouth for Eastbourne College friends

A pair of sporty friends from Eastbourne College are busy pounding the pavements in a bid to tackle a marathon along the coast in Portsmouth.

Alison Lowden and Charlotte Yates have signed up to run the 26.2mile race later this year and, with the event taking place on December 23, they have taken the decision to knock the mince pies on the head this Christmas to make sure they are in tip top condition.

The girls have just finished studying at Eastbourne College and have both decided to take a gap year before leaving for university – with preparations for the big race getting all their attention fore the time being.

Once it is finished Alison is heading to Brisbane in Australia where she will spend time coaching hockey and netball while Charlotte is already lining up work experience within the fashion industry.

Before then though, both girls are keen to do something which might not otherwise have a chance to do and the Portsmouth Marathon provides the perfect opportunity.

Neither Alice nor Charlotte has ever run more than a couple of miles before now and with their tough training schedule -currently requiring them to run more than 40 miles a week - set to get even tougher, fitting it all in on top of their full-time jobs is certainly proving to be something of a challenge.

Alice and Charlotte will be running to try and raise as much cash as possible for St Wilfrid’s Hospice and they can be sponsored online at www.justgiving.com/Charlotte-Yates-Alice-Lowden.
