Residents of Hailsham and the surrounding area can take advantage of a special two for the price of one bus ticket to Pevensey Bay on Wednesdays this summer.
The trip to the Wealden coastal resort is being promoted by Westham & Pevensey Local Transport Partnership, a community transport group, and is supported by the Wealden Bus Alliance.
“The Westham & Pevensey Rover Six service runs between Hailsham and Pevensey Bay every Wednesday, stopping off at Hailsham High Street,” explained Barry Marlowe, the Wealden District councillor who chairs the Wealden Bus Alliance. “The two-for-one offer on Wednesdays is a really inexpensive way to spend a day by the seaside. Visitors can enjoy the great local hospitality to be found in Pevensey Bay as well as historical attractions such as Pevensey Castle and the Old Mint.”
Two local businesses, the Castle Inn and Ocean View Restaurant, are supporting the initiative by offering holders of bus tickets special offers.
“It is always great to have new visitors,” said Andrew Skinner, landlord of the Castle Inn. “Pevensey is a very welcoming place and offers a great change of scenery for a summer’s day.”
“There’s much to be enjoyed at Pevensey Bay,” said Elizabeth Taylor of the Ocean View restaurant. “Sunshine or showers, we are always pleased to welcome visitors.”
Bookings for the Rover Six service can also be arranged over the telephone by calling 0845 606 6951. Full details of the Rover 6 timetable can be found on the Westham & Pevensey Local Transport Partnership’s website, www.wpltp.co.uk.
The two-for-one Pevensey promotion will run every Wednesday for the rest of the summer. Two passengers will be eligible to travel for the price of one person. The fare can be paid as cash or with a concessionary pass as passengers board the bus. The fares are £2 single, £4 return, or use an OAP pass. The Rover 6 has low floor disability access vehicle. Buses leave Hailsham High Street four times a day on Wednesdays.
