An initiative to recruit trainee conveyancing paralegals has been hailed a success with 10 applicants set to start their training at the firm’s Eastbourne office this month.

They will start an education and training programme that will lead to a specialist paralegal qualification from the University of the West of England and over the coming months they will acquire the legal and technical skills to work as a conveyancer at law firm Gaby Hardwicke, combining on-the-job training with course assessments and exams.

They were handpicked after an appeal run by Gaby Hardwicke in the Herald, Gazette and Observer series of newspapers.

On welcoming the new starters, Gaby Hardwicke partner and conveyancing operations manager Jamie Salvidge said, “We are delighted to have been able to select this group to join our already substantial team. With the assistance of Central Law Training and the University of West England we will over the coming months watch as they learn and flourish in their new roles.

“We will of course provide ongoing training and support and we very much hope that we can assist them in allowing them to pursue their ambitions of a long-term career in the law.”

The arrival of the 10 new trainees coincides with Gaby Hardwicke reaching the finals of the 2014 Law Firm Services Conveyancing Awards. Last year Gaby Hardwicke won the silver award in the Estate Agents Conveyancing Firm of the Year category and this year the firm has been shortlisted for an award in the Regional Conveyancer of the Year category for London and the south east.

Christopher Bean, partner and director of business development, said, “It is a great honour to once more be finalists in such a prestigious awards group. It is not however the work of one person, it is a team effort and my thanks go to all who work in conveyancing at Gaby Hardwicke who have allowed us to reach this stage. The awards will take place at a glittering Gala Dinner in September in Coventry. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a good result on the night.”
