£14 million housing project launched

Eastbourne Borough Council has approved a £14 million development programme in order to meet the town’s housing needs.

Councillors at the recent Cabinet meeting agreed the programme which will allow for the development of 180 extra homes by 2018. The programme will be supported by bids made to government to help meet the cost of the developments.

Councillor Margaret Bannister, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “Extending our existing development programme will help local people obtain good quality homes at affordable rents. It will enable Eastbourne Homes to bring even more empty properties back into use.”

The Council is also looking at ways to best deliver the homes. Cabinet approved work to assess the benefits of setting up a new housing company. The first phase is set to deliver 55 new homes and three commercial units.
