Young Stars rise from the church hall ashes
RISING Stars Pre-school – which lost everything in the St Andrew’s Church Hall fire two years ago – is moving back to the new rebuilt hall.
Flames ripped through the church hall in a suspected arson attack and destroyed the building and pre-school facilities.
The blaze took hold at the community facility, behind the Arlington Arms, off Seaside, in the early hours of May 9, 2010.
Local residents called the emergency services at around 12.30am as the flames broke out in the building but firefighters were unable to stop the blaze taking hold and the building was burnt to the ground.
Many groups and the church itself lost items as well as a valuable community facility.
Fundraising started to rebuild the hall and this summer members of St Andrew’s Church celebrated recently when the bigger and better church hall was officially opened.
Father David King, vicar of St Andrew’s Church, said, “It is absolutely wonderful and we’re very excited. It is the next chapter and perfect timing as this year we celebrate our centenary.”
Following the church’s summer fete and centenary celebrations this summer, Rising Stars are now relocating back to the hall in time for the new school year.
They will have their first day there on September 5 and hope to welcome Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd for an official opening and to mark the occasion.
The pre-school has been operating from Christ Church in Seaside for the past two years but they are pleased to be moving back to St Andrew’s.
Rising Stars is a committee run charity pre-school and has been established for more than 30 years.
It is open term time only and spaces are available for the coming year.
