WRAS rescues 13 stranded chickens
Volunteer rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) rescued 13 chickens which had fallen from a lorry in Chiddingly.
The chickens' plight was spotted by a local woman who alerted WRAS.
It is thought the chickens were heading for slaughter.
WRAS stepped in after it became apparent no-one else could help.
Sussex Horse Rescue also kindly agreed to take them on at their sanctuary at Uckfield.
WRAS rescuer Tony Neads is pictured whisking the chickens to safety.
Trevor Weeks, founder of the charity, said, "We do not normally get involved in these rescues but no-one else seemed interested in helping.
"As it has been a quiet day we decided we would try and help."
