Woman sexually assaulted in Eastbourne - fourth attack in the town in a month

A YOUNG woman was sexually assaulted by a teenager in Eastbourne, the fourth such attack in the town in the last month.

The women was assaulted along St Philips Avenue in the Roselands area of Eastbourne at about 8.40pm on Thursday evening while she was sitting on a wall outside an electricity sub-station to make a phone call.

According to Sussex Police, she was approached four times in a matter of minutes by a young man on a BMX-style bike who threatened her and carried out a sexual assualt before riding away.

Nothing was stolen and the victim did not require medical treatment, but she was badly shocked.

Police have said they are not linking this latest assault with three similar incidents in Eastbourne during September which are being investigated as part of Operation Sullivan. However, the possibility is being considered.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Patch said; “This incident, like the other three, did not result in injury, but it was very frightening for the victim, and isolated offenders of this type need to be caught as soon as possible.”

The suspect is described as being of tanned complexion, about 17-years-old, with dark hair and a fringe across his face. He was wearing a red, black and grey checked hooded top.

Detective Constable Sheila Nicholson added; “If you were in the St Philips Avenue area last Thursday evening and saw this suspect, or if you have any other information, please contact us via 101 quoting serial 1679 of 4/10. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
