Youngsters are being invited to take part in an academic competition to design a new restaurant, bar, cafe or hotel on the prestigious Wish Tower site.

Eastbourne Borough Council is inviting teams of students in Year 10 and Post-16 to take part in an academic competition to design a contemporary restaurant, bar, cafe or hotel on the Wish Tower site.

An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson said, “Supporting the development of young people is a key priority for the council.

“Participating students will gain a very real learning experience of what is involved in the design and planning process of commercial development whilst acquiring valuable life and work-place skills to help them with their further education and future careers.”

The Eastbourne Education Business Partnership, which is co-ordinating the competition, and the council is holding a launch event at the Town Hall on Tuesday (October 9) from 3.45pm-4.45pm.

The event is for participating schools and colleges, key partners and potential business mentors.

The leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor David Tutt, will open the event informing attendees why the Council commissioned the initiative and of the value and benefits to students.

A session on ‘What students need to know’ will follow with a questions and answers session.

The event will end with networking providing delegates an opportunity to meet the participating schools and colleges, the judging panel and other key partners whilst the Project Packs are distributed to students.
