Wind farm plan goes to inspector

A planning application to build the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Seaford has been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.

Energy company E.ON submitted what is known as a development consent order to the government department on March 1.

These are made when the proposed development is of national significance.

Usually planning decisions are made by the local planning authority, in our case Lewes or Wealden District Councils or the South Downs National Park Authority.

E.ON has completed consultation with the additional consultees and no further issues have been raised which require consideration.

A 28-day period will now follow for the Planning Inspectorate to decide whether to accept the application.

If accepted, E.ON will publish notices in local and national newspapers setting out where the community can view the proposals and how to register opinions with the Planning Inspectorate.

A final decision on whether consent will be granted will not be made until summer 2014. The project could feature between 100 and 175 turbines.
