Wildlife rescue team’s stall bid to raise vital funds

A WILDLIFE rescue charity will be in the Arndale Centre this weekend to talk to locals about the work its volunteers do in the Eastbourne area.

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) founder Trevor Weeks is setting up a stall outside Topshop tomorrow (Saturday) where he will also be trying to raise funds for the charity.

Mr Weeks said, “Many think we are funded by national or local government or by the RSPCA and are surprised to find out our funding is by donations, and a small amount by grants.

“The average cost of responding to a single call-out is £75 including veterinary bills, medication, first aid and treatment, food, bedding, caging, rescue equipment, ambulance costs, rent, rates, utilities etc.

“Unlike their domestic cousins wildlife does not have owners to look after them, nor pet insurance to pay vets bills, but they do have WRAS. However, we can only take care of them if we have the funding and resources to. So please come along and support us.

“The demand for WRAS’s service has always been way higher than WRAS can afford to cope with – we need to keep the funds coming in or we could end up having to take a step back.”
