Where will new skate park go?

A drop-in session focusing on where a £120,000 skate part should be built in Hampden Park is taking place on March 4.

Local residents are being asked for their views on the location of the youngsters’ amentiy.

Two locations for the purpose-built skate park have been identified and Eastbourne Borough Council is now consulting on which site is preferred.

Site A is on Cross Levels Way, situated between the Sports Park Athletics Track and the new St Wilfrid’s Hospice building, where currently there are some earth BMX ramps.

Site B is on the disused rifle range off Hampden Park Drive, situated on land adjacent to existing outdoor tennis and bowls facilities, and with the old rifle range back wall against the woodland of Ham Shaw at one end of the site.

The council is planning to complete the skate park project during 2014 as part of its commitment to delivering healthy, sustainable communities.

To complete the questionnaire visit www.eastbourne.gov.uk or pick up a form at Hampden Park Café or at the Sports Park.

Laminated posters will be on display in the Hampden Park playground.

Questionnaires must be submitted by Friday March 15.

The drop-in session will be held at the Hampden Park Community Centre in Brodrick Road, Hampden Park, between 2pm and 4pm and 6pm and 8pm on March 4.

Visitors will be able to discuss the plans with council officers and offer feedback.

Cllr Steve Wallis, portfolio holder for the environment, said, “There is a clear need for a skate park in the Hampden Park area and ensuring the location best meets the needs of youngsters is vital.

“This consultation will give local people the chance to influence where the skate park is located and so I would encourage as many people as possible to log on to the council website and attend the drop in session.”
