Walks will highlight the plight of our bees

WILDLIFE enthusiasts are being urged to make a beeline for two walks taking place later this month.

Organised as part of a national campaign by Friends of the Earth to highlight the plight of bees, there will be a pair of bee walks held in Eastbourne on Saturday, September 8.

The first one will be in Hampden Park, and will start at 10am from the cafe next to the pond, and will last until noon.

The second one will be in Gildredge Park and will set off from the cafe there at 2.30pm and last until 4.30pm.

The Bee Walk project is all about helping people find out what’s good and bad for bees, and the results of the walks will contribute to a planned Local Bee Action Plan for the Eastbourne area.

And the overall hope is that organisers can encourage Eastbourne Borough Council to adopt more bee-friendly policies for the management of its parks, gardens and public spaces.

Everybody is welcome to either, or both, of the Bee Walks, which are free of charge.

There will be guidance sheets and feedback forms available for everybody taking part, along with free gifts of wildflower seed packets, bee badges, bee booklets, and bee posters.

People are encouraged to bring along a camera to record things that are of relevance to bees and wildflowers.
