Visit to air ambulance wows businessman

A HAILSHAM businessman has said he is 'in total awe' of the Sussex Air Ambulance after seeing its life-saving work first hand.

Steve Patrick, who runs Tower Welding Ltd in Station Road, has supported the charity ever since it arrived on the scene to treat one of his employees in the 1990s.

Mr Patrick visited the air ambulance's Dunsfold Park base near Horsham with his family to hand over a cheque for 250. While there, he was given a tour of the helicopter and heard about the vital work of the medical crew.

He said that, while he had given money to the Sussex Air Ambulance Fund for many years, he had never been to visit the charity before now.

Mr Patrick said, "I have to say that I'm in total awe of the life-saving crew who carry out this amazing work.

"I was witness to a very serious injury involving one of my employees. Having to be one of the first on the scene to the incident, you can imagine the relief I felt when the medical crew arrived.

"I support this vital charity as it gives such an enormous amount to our county – we're very lucky to have it."

Delaine Shearman, West Sussex county fundraiser for the Sussex Air Ambulance Fund, thanked Mr Patrick for his support.

She said, "Steve really is proof that years after being touched by the amazing life-saving work our medical team does, people never forget and Steve's memory of that particular incident is still as vivid today.

"We're grateful to Steve for his continued support; his generosity will help our medical team carry on their life-saving work across Sussex."
