Villages to be part of Wealden constituency for election
RESIDENTS in Arlington and Upper Dicker will be voting in a different constituency at this year's general election.
Boundary changes approved in 2007 mean the two villages will be shifted out of the Lewes constituency and become part of Wealden when the election is held.
Herstmonceux and Wartling will continue in the Bexhill and Battle constituency. The effect of the changes was to reduce the size of the Wealden constituency by 10 per cent to 75,000 electors after the Boundary Commission expressed concerns that it was too large.
Although the date of the election is not yet known, Wealden District Council has urged residents not to wait until it has been announced before securing their right to vote.
Charles Lant, electoral registration officer, said, "There is very little time to register to vote if you have not already done so.
"The time between the election date being announced and the last chance to register to vote or to apply for a postal vote can be a matter of a few days.
"If you are not on the electoral register, you won't be able to vote."
Electoral registration forms were sent out to every household last autumn. Anyone who has still not registered, or who would like to apply for a postal vote, can do so online by downloading a form from www.wealden.gov.uk or by calling Wealden Electoral Services on 01892 602417.
