Victim of Hailsham throat slashing needed 85 stitches - man appears in court

An Eastbourne man alleged to have slashed a fellow pub-goer with a Stanley knife has appeared in court.

Lucas Lamb was at Eastbourne Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday, May 22) after being charged with wounding with intent following an incident in Hailsham.

The court heard the man who was slashed - and as a result needed 85 stitches - was at the Corn Exchange on Saturday May 12 when trouble flared in the early hours of the next morning.

Prosecutor Jeremy King said Alec Pope was at the premises when his son was punched by a person who was not 29-year-old Lamb.

Following this a struggle took place and the defendant, of Walton Close, is alleged to have cut Mr Pope with the knife. The court was told Mr Pope could feel liquid running down his face and neck and initially his injuries were thought to be life threatening because of the blood loss but this was able to be controlled.

Lamb entered no plea at the hearing and is next due to appear at the crown court on August 10.

Magistrates remanded him in custody.
