Verdict of suicide recorded for Beachy Head death
A SALES representative who booked a one-way ticket from his home country to England was found dead at the bottom of Beachy Head cliffs, an inquest has heard.
Rene Buchholz, from Hagen in Germany, had also written a letter which his family found after his death stating that he committed suicide on August 7, 2011.
On that day the 29-year-old’s body was recovered by Ben Callaway, coastguard officer with the coastguard response team.
The inquest at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court heard the pathologist report showed Mr Buchholz had alcohol in his system which was consistent with being three times the drink drive limit.
A statement on behalf of his sister, Nadine Buchholz described Mr Buchholz as ‘intelligent’, ‘well organised’ and that he loved to travel, adding his family and friends could not imagine he would take his own life.
A note from his employers said he had started with them as an office clerk in 2006 and in a short space of time became very competent, adding, “We still cannot believe his decision, he will be very much missed in our company.”
Detective Sergeant David Tritton said a draft goodbye message to Mr Buchholz’s family had been found on his phone and that there was nothing to suggest it was anything other than suicide.
Coroner Alan Craze agreed and recording a verdict of suicide said it had been planned over a period of months.
