UFOs sighted over Eastbourne intrigue expert
A STRANGE set of lights seen floating over Eastbourne may not be able to be explained away as Chinese Lanterns.
Eastbourne and the surrounding area is often inundated with reports of UFOs but the majority are put down to the floating lights commonly used at weddings and birthday celebrations.
However, local teenager Liberty Jacklin claims to have seen something unusual in the skies above her Normans Bay home and a local paranormal expert is at a loss on how to explain it.
The 16-year-old, who saw the object last Wednesday evening, said, “At around 9.30pm we let the dogs out in the garden, and I saw strange lights in the sky, and called my family to see.
“They were two rings of circular lights, one within the other. We saw them from our back door in the clouds above the level crossing around 130 metres from our house.
“They were rotating almost horizontally from side to side, travelling a regular distance of around 100 metres.
“It went on for an hour and a half, stopping just after 11pm.”
Intrigued she visit www.eastbourneherald.co.uk and searched for other reported UFO sightings – stumbling across one from Nicholas Munro, also of Normans Bay.
That sighting dated back to November 2007 but mirrored almost perfectly Miss Jacklin and her family’s experience.
It was then she decided to get in touch with the paper to report the incident.
Malcolm Robinson, who is considered a world authority on the paranormal and unexplained, was excited to hear about the sighting.
He said, “My first thought was this could be a few of those Chinese Lanterns grouped together, however, the witness states their sighting was of two rings of circular lights, one within the other, which is not indicative of Chinese Lanterns.
“That said, it is of course possible someone might have strung together a number of these Chinese Lanterns together, whereby making it look more spectacular than the normal run of the mill grouped effect.
“The time duration of this sighting (an hour and a half) is decidedly longer than the average UFO sighting which usually lasts only around two to three minutes.
“Not having fully investigated this sighting myself, it is of course difficult to come up with a definitive answer as to what this could be.
“Normally I would check with the Coastguard, police, airports etc, all to try and find out if there was a natural explanation to account for this.
“Having said that though, I’m pretty sure the witness has seen plenty aircraft in the sky and to report this incident, then she must be of the opinion that this was out of the ordinary.
“I would ask that if there are any other readers who may also have seen this, to get in touch with the paper.”
Anyone who has seen strange objects in the sky should email richard.morris@jpress.co.uk or call 414483.
Mr Robinson, who was the first Scot to be invited to talk in UFOs on American soil, is also currently researching his fourth book on the paranormal.
He wants to get in touch with any readers who have experienced the unexplained.
Anyone who wants to reach Mr Robinson can do so by emailing malckyspi@yahoo.com.

Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 01:14 AMHi, I have read your comments and have a few points for you: 1) The first thing thing my dad said when my brother and I told him about the lights was that they were probably laser lights from Herstmonceux. However when he saw them he changed his mind. There was no light source beaming up from below. 2)There are no nightclubs nearby. There is the star inn across the field, but it wasn't from there. We live in a very tall house (historically used for spotting smugglers on the coast), and have brilliant clear views for 360 degrees around our house towards the sea and surrounding fields. There were no people about as we most probably would have heard them. The east end of Normans Bay is remote, desolate and very quiet. 3)The lights did not come from the Eastbourne direction, they were situated in a northerly direction behind our house. The level crossing is not the main Normans bay one, it is the small unmanned crossing near the old railway cottages. 4)I tried to take photos with my Nikon SLR Digital Camera. It was too faint. I dont usually take pictures of the night sky with it, and I dont know how to. I also tried to use my mobile phone camera, but when I took the photo it came out dark, and no lights were seen on it. My brother and I were sitting in the bathroom watching it. I shall fully describe it in more detail for you: -It was moving at an almost horizontal angle. -It was rotating at different speeds clockwise, and sometimes anticlockwise, left to right, and right to left. -On one occasion it changed the direction in which it rotated mid-journey. -Often it would travel from one side to the other, and slow down and disappear when it reached the other side. My brother and i counted on several occasions how long it disappeared for. It often disappeared for around 10-13 seconds, more or less. -At one point, it completely disappeared for more than 5 minutes, and then one or two of the lights came back extremely faintly before disappearing and the whole set of lights came back. My mum and dad have lived in the house for nearly 20 years, and have NEVER seen ANYTHING like it! My dad is extremely cynical, but couldnt explain it, neither could my mum, who trained as a scientist! I can answer any further points you have. Liberty

Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 07:24 AMI think in all probability, the laser light effect may well be the answer here (as it has been in numerous other cases around the United Kingdom.) When there is this low level cloud base, laser lights usually coming from discos or night clubs can indeed hit low level cloud and make spiraling movements on the cloud base which look really weird to those that don’t know what it truly is. As the researcher into this case I will certainly be making enquiries into if this is indeed the case. The vast majority of UFO sightings, as high as 95%, have natural explanations and it looks like this may well be another one. I must state though, for anyone who has not seen this effect, believe me it does look strange. What makes it even more bizarre is the fact that depending on conditions, you might not actually see the laser beam coming up into the sky, you will only see the spiral dance of the lights on the cloud base. I shall inform the Eastbourne Herald of my research of this case, so stay tuned folks. (Malcolm Robinson, Founder Strange Phenomena Investigations)

Friday, November 4, 2011 at 07:51 PMI believe I have an answer to the “UFO” sightings over Normans Bay near Eastbourne ( Eastbourne Herald website of 4th Nov 2011) recently and over the past few years. I have seen them myself on several occasions. They are seen only on nights with low cloud. When I saw them they were a single rotating circle of about 8 or 10 dull white glows rotating about once every 1-2 seconds. I saw them from the Herstmonceux Science Center. I was a member of the Eastbourne Astronomical Society waiting for the clouds to clear to demonstrate one of the telescopes to the public on an open evening. It took only a few seconds for me to see the beam causing the show was very terrestrial, originating from a night club in the Eastbourne direction. As an Eastbourne resident at the time I was well used to seeing rotating beams at night from the nightclub on the end of the pier during evening walks along the prom. I have also noted that Kings club in Langney Road has done the same thing. The illuminated low clouds reflect very nicely, and depending on the cloud ceiling the display can be seen from 10 miles from Eastbourne. Clouds at different levels can give the impression of more than one ring. It is possible the nightclubs have put more bells and whistles on the spotlights, perhaps an inner counter-rotating ring.. I am no longer resident in the area and cannot say. It might be interesting to confirm that the witnesses saw the lights in the Eastbourne direction from Normans Bay, probably over the level crossing. Also the shut-off time of the display at 11.30 pm seems to coincide very conveniently with “last orders please!” I hope this wraps up the mystery. I myself was very disappointed that this was not a close encounter. I am a lifelong Sci-Fi fan. The show was also seen by other E.A.S members present and can be corroborated. Yours P. Davies
