Tributes paid to Eastbourne football coach found dead

A popular football coach from Eastbourne has been found dead.

Father-of-three Jamie Boyd spearheaded Brighton & Hove Albion’s community work here in Eastbourne, working with dozens of youngsters, as well as taking up a coaching role at Eastbourne Borough.

His body was found at the home he shared with wife Michelle and their children Jasmin, Billy and Scarlet on Friday. He was just 35 years old.

Friends and colleagues immediately paid tribute to the much-loved local, and Brighton & Hove Albion will hold a minute’s applause before their game with Watford tonight (Tuesday). Albion players will also wear black armbands in his memory.

The club’s football and sports participation officer, Andy Stoodley, who worked closely with Mr Boyd, was among those to pay tribute to him.

He said, “Jamie was a character and always had a smile on his face.

“The kids who came to the courses loved his sessions and responded to his effervescent character.

“He had the ability to bring out the best in all he came into contact with.”

More tributes and a full story will appear in tomorrow’s Eastbourne Gazette and anyone who would like to pay tribute to Mr Boyd should email eastbourne.herald@trbeckett.co.uk or leave their comments below.
