Tribute has been paid to an Eastbourne pharmacist who passed away last month.

William Forrester-Brown, known as Bill, died on December 21 after a long illness. He was born in Edinburgh in 1920 and began studying as a pharmacist. But with the outbreak of World War Two he joined the RAF where he served for six years with his unit as a radar technician. After he was demobbed, he finished his studies at Edinburgh University and qualified as a pharmacist. He then worked for pharmaceutical companies, travelling extensively in Europe and Russia. In the 1960s he bought a pharmacy in Dulwich where he stayed for several years and later moved to Eastbourne. The father-of-five then went on to purchase a pharmacy in Terminus Road and other shops in and around the town. These were all known under the name of Richards Chemists. He lived and worked in Eastbourne for more than 30 years and was well known and respected by his customers and everyone who knew him.

His wife Sara, known as Sally, who was married to Bill for 32 years, said, “He was a fantastic businessman and a good father and husband. He loved travelling and we used to go on fantastic holidays.”

The pair lived in Meads. As well as leaving behind Sally and five children, Bill also leaves behind grandchildren, great grandchildren and a stepdaughter.

His funeral will take place at Eastbourne Crematorium in the large chapel on Wednesday January 9 at 3.15pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
