TRENCHERMAN AND TURNER IN BEST OF BRITAIN
EASTBOURNE delicatessen, Trencherman and Turner has been named as food hero of Britain by celebrity chef and restaurateur, Rick Stein.
The store, owned by Emmett Turner is the only one in Sussex to receive such an accolade.
In particular, Rick Stein was impressed by the local cheeses including 'Scrumpy Sussex', a variety made with local cider.
Award-winning Sussex wines, organic ham on the bone, bacon and free-range eggs from a local farm and jams, mustards, chutneys are all for sale in the shop together with products from other delicatessens around the country, including smoked wild salmon, fresh from Scotland and Ireland.
Emmett said, 'I have a real passion for food and the name of the shop was inspired by this. By habit, I am a trencherman, which means 'good eater'. I sell a variety of local produce, which I find by visiting local farms and bringing back quality organic foods.'
Emmett's background is in hotels and restaurants and his interest in food preparation was evident at age of 13, when his Christmas list included a food processor.
He decided on opening the shop in Grove Road, as it fits well in Little Chelsea, contributing to the feel of the area. Emmett also likes the pace and quality of life in Eastbourne and Little Chelsea in particular.
