Services to remember the fallen who lost their lives in conflicts will take place in Eastbourne over the weekend.

Sunday November 11 is Armistice Day and there will be services of remembrance across the town.

Poppy sellers will also be out in the town centre this week.

On Sunday morning the annual Remembrance Day Parade, service and two minute silence takes place with the parade starting at the Royal Air Force Association Club in Wish Road at 10.15am.

It will process to the Flying Angel War Memorial in Cornfield Road where various organisations and individuals will lay wreaths.

Also on Sunday afternoon there will be a Remembrance Service at the Ruthless Memorial at Butts Brow, Willingdon.

Wreaths will be laid in memory of the crew of an American B24 Liberator bomber, Ruth-Less, who died when their aircraft crashed into the hillside in February 1944.

Before Sunday though, at the Redoubt on Friday November 9 there will be drama performances and readings by local schools and community groups in the parade ground swirling with poppies to mark the Remembrance weekend.

The two-minute silence will be marked with a bugle call of The Last Post and the lowering of the standard by Standard Bearers from the Maritime Volunteer Service.

This will be accompanied by hundreds of handmade paper poppies being dropped from around the fortress’s gun platform into the parade ground.
